Soon after we created our team on Devpost (the official website of the hackaton) we started a brainstorming for what type of game we can build.

The first ideas

At first, we wanted to find on wich topic our game will be focused. With only height week of developement, we have to find some great idea to make an enjoyable game that’s not too complicated to develop. So we decided to work around only one topic for the core game mechanics.

So we started to read the documentations provided by the flutter team on how to impact with gameplay mechanics and a lot of other documents about substainability and ecological problem all around the wolrd.

As we continued our journey to discover more about sustainability, we had a lot of different gameplay ideas. So we had to chose the best one for us.

The most important decision

To start the development, we had to make a tough choice and choose the subject of our game. After reviewing all of the ideas that we had during one week, we had a lot of discussion about what gameplay and thematic was the best. Our ideas goes from arcade game to more complex (and really too complex for a height week challenge).

Also, we wanted the game to be about a subject that talk to us and so, one of our favorite subject was the protection of the oceans. We decided to go with it, and started to find a gameplay that would fit this theme, and the robot idea was the first we had.

From the idea to the game versions

With our subject and base gameplay decided, it was time to make a plan for the next seven weeks. For that, we needed to have some clear objective, so, we wrote four descriptions of four different versions of our future game.

V0 (poc): This version is more a proof of Concept than a game. In this version, the basic gameplay will be showcased to evaluate the potential of a future game with this gameplay.

V1 (minimal): In this one, only the key features would be developed, the game would be enough advanced to be submitted in the contest.

V2 (objective): This version is what we imagine could develop in the allowed time frame. The game would be more complex with more features, also, the integration of the Wallet API for the side contest would be done.

V3 (optimal): In this version, we added all the ideas that we had, and it would be awesome to have it all int our game by the end of the challenge. It also define what we want to develop after the end of the challenge.

With their four version defined, we added some deadline, that we think would be possible to archive during our free time and before the final date of the 5th march 2024. and after that, it was finally time to start coding !
